A blues bonanza in the show this week, with a heavy blues emphasis in three of the songs but the show closes with a return to alternative rock.

The first artist is a real multi-talent, with a prolific work rate. Michael Stephens sings, writes music, poetry, makes videos, sells books and hosts his own cool podshow called The Open Mike Café . His video in this post illustrates his own song Wolfman Blues.

Next we have Key Of Me with their tune Get Over It. The individual talents of this band combine to produce a mature, sophisticated sound, not surprising given their musical heritage.

The blues heritage of the third song in tonight’s episode is clear from the opening bar. This song is one of Mean Gene’s personal favourites but one that isn’t played too often at the biker rallies. It gets a lot of airplay on radio and podcasts though and I can hear why.

The next artist is Gray Martin with the song Mystery Stare. Gray seems like a top bloke but I found out from his site that the three CDs worth of material are out of print at the moment. Enjoy this gem from Gray and follow the Soundclick link to listen to some of his other cool tracks.

This week's show opener is Joel Melton from Austin Texas. He has an infectious Southern drawl to his voice. Country sounds great when played in this way, I love songs like this.

The next track is a laid back ride provided by Slackstring, a band from California who know how to write great catchy songs. Apparently, Slackstring have some moie credits to their name in the world of extreme sports, go boys!

Cafebar401 are reprised in this episode, after a short track last week. This week's track is just awesome! Great title too.

Ross Crean's Leaving New York is an emotional journey, recorded live and later worked on in the studio. A very moving, emotional song.

I thought last week's show was pretty eclectic but actually, this shows also contains quite a wide variety too. Long live serendipity!

Episode 6

I'm on episode 6, that's almost halfway through all the songs I have selected for the first series of 13 podcasts. I'm starting to wonder what I should do after this series is over.

This show kicks off with a pop band from NYC called The Switch, I like their sound and find it has a sort of timeless quality to it. Listening to their song Trini is very pleasing because it is just so self-assured, it's high quality stuff. The Deli Magazine is quoted on their press page, I like The Deli Magazine, so they get my vote too.

Next up it's The Hollyfelds, you need to get up and start dancing to this tune. It's kind of country music but the best kind in my opinion. Music of the people by the people. It's got some awesome lyrics but the lyric phrasing is just so good and Eryn's voice blends so nicely with all of the instruments. You'll have your toe tapping at the very least.

Cafebar401 have a great sound, I can hear lots of influences in their sound but they do melodic powerful music that you just can't help liking because they do it so well. I love The doctors say so much, it's a short track but just has me hooked into the song.

Ella Blame sounds like nobody else I've heard before. This song is a bit of a departure for this podcast because I think it's probably the first piece of all electronic music I've played. But you need to turn up the volume, turn off the lights and it transports you to another time and planet. Marvellous stuff.
